Local talent shone bright at the 2025 WUKF South Africa National Championship and Afro-Asian Open, where young karatekas from North West proudly represented the province.
The prestigious event, recognised internationally and hosted under Martial Arts South Africa (MASA), saw over 800 athletes from 120 teams competing in more than 2,000 events across Traditional Karate and Kobudo disciplines.
Among the standout achievers were students from Ken to Ashi Do Dojo, based at 196B President Mbeki Drive. Ehlandre Ehlers, a red belt, impressed judges and spectators alike by earning a gold medal in Kata, while Bopelo Mokoto, a green belt, fought bravely to secure a bronze in Kumite.
Also making the province proud were karatekas from Hawk Eye Karate Academy, located at Shop 20, Kloof Centre, 171 Kock Street. Kgothatso Seipati, a green belt, showcased both discipline and flair by winning silver medals in Kata and Kumite.
Tshegofatso Mabovu, a purple belt, also claimed a bronze medal in Kumite, underlining the academy’s strong competitive spirit.
All four athletes were awarded North West Provincial Colours for Martial Arts, a notable honour that reflects their dedication, skill, and outstanding performance at the highest national level.
The community applauded these young champions and their instructors for their incredible achievements and for representing their hometown with such pride. Their journey is an inspiration to aspiring athletes across the region, and we look forward to their continued success.
