The spirit of unity, competition and football excellence was alive and kicking as Phokeng Masters Football Club (FC), hailing from the Windsor Section in Phokeng, hosted the exhilarating Saboleswa 4Nations Soccer Tournament on Saturday, at the Luka Sports Facilities.
The tournament, named after the countries represented — South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini (Swaziland) — brought together veteran players and passionate fans in a day filled with talent, rivalry and sportsmanship.
Matches kicked off at 10h00 and continued until 17h00, with each clash played over 70 minutes.
Ferdinand “Bizza” Phusoane, managing director of Phokeng Masters FC, praised the tournament’s growing calibre. “The games were highly competitive. You can see how the standard has improved since previous years,” he said.
In the opening match, Lesotho beat Eswatini 5–2. Phokeng Masters then faced Botswana in a tense battle that ended 2–2, with the hosts edging out their opponents 5–4 on penalties. The final, a nail-biter against Letseng Masters from Lesotho, also ended 2–2 — before Phokeng sealed victory with a dramatic 9–8 penalty win.
