With burning legs and an unbreakable spirit, 26-year-old Ontiretse Seleke — known as “The Fighter” — crossed the finishing line of the 2025 Comrades Marathon on 8 June 2025, clocking an impressive 10 hours, 28 minutes and 38 seconds. His reward? A coveted bronze medal, earned over the gruelling 89km stretch between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
Seleke, who hails from Monakato, is no stranger to pushing his limits. While many would rest after such a feat, he’s already lacing up for the next challenge. A seasoned boxer since 2013, Ontiretse has juggled two demanding sports with fierce determination.
“I have a passion for boxing and long-distance running,” he shared. “This was my second Comrades Marathon back-to-back, and I’m proud to have earned the bronze. It’s not about speed — it’s about perseverance and purpose.”
Despite a rocky start in professional boxing with two tough losses, Seleke remains focused. “I’m looking forward to pushing myself more in both sports. I’m grateful to my family and friends who have stood by me.”
Now, he’s calling on the community for support. Whether you’re a fan, a sponsor, or someone moved by his relentless drive — Seleke welcomes any assistance as he continues to chase his goals.
