According to suspicions, it was a cable theft that led to the outage the lasted for more than 10 hours near the newly built Shoprite USave store in the Ext 10

Residents say, at the early morning of Tuesday, a group of individuals were stealing a copper cable in the Ext 10, which is a main powerline for areas of Ext 5, 10, 13 and 15

The matter was reported to the police and upon receiving the case on the 26th October 2024, members of Anti-Gang Unit expedited investigation, which resulted in the arrest

The gang members targeted contractors, employees at construction sites, tuck shops as well as members of the community, among others by demanding protection fees and committing robberies.  Investigation into the matter including the tracing of the remaining suspects, continues

On the other hand, a Councillor, Mpho Andrew Hlongwane & two other accused were involved in an extortion case registered against them. The two suspects including the councillor, were also arrested on the 16th October 2024 for extorting money from the contractor of the Shoprite USave store in Tswelelang, Ext 10
