SA government has placed R600 million for June 30 protests to curb lawlessness

The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Justice, Crime Prevention, and Security (JCPS) Cluster is monitoring social media and considered using drones to monitor threats on 30 June 2026. Anti-immigrant group March and March planned to bring the country to a standstill in a national shutdown protest calling for the immediate and mass deportation of illegal immigrants living in South Africa. Protesting groups have positioned themselves as being against illegal immigration only, emphasising that the protests aren’t about xenophobia. They have blamed illegal immigrants for several social problems, including the high levels of crime and unemployment in South Africa. March and March also submitted a series of demands to the authorities, which included stricter border controls and the mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals. Speaking to the media on Monday, 22 June 2026, SAPS and the JCPS Cluster said plans included deploying more police in the week leading ...

Senona denies subjecting Sander to polygraph test for coffee machine theft

Embattled KZN Hawks boss Leseja Senona has rubbished claims he subjected Warrant Officer Karl Sander to a polygraph test for the theft of a coffee machine. A coffee machine, Sander claimed, belonged to him in the first place. Giving evidence before the Commission on Friday, Senona said he had no recollection of ordering a polygraph test linked to the theft of Sander's coffee machine. "That is not correct. It is insane. If you are a victim and I put you on a polygraph test, that is wrong. He misled the commission." "In that office, there were four thefts; his coffee machine was the last one," Senona said. He said it was, in fact, Hawks Commander Brigadier Campbell Nyuswa, who initiated and applied for the polygraph test for officers in that office after rampant theft. "The only thing I did was to sign a call-up instruction because there was no break-in, but things were disappearing. I believe that was done bona fide, not to punish any pers...
