The DR KK Health led another Planning Lekgotla for the 2025/26 Financial Year

Wolmaransstad - The Maquassi-Hills Sub District team has concluded it's  2-day Planning Lekgotla for the 2025/26 Financial Year

Priorities remain encompassed over the provision of quality, efficient health care, that's according to the sub-district team

In 2025, the Dr KK District Health led a Lekgotla in the Maquassi-Hills sub-district for its 2024/25 Financial Year. Different units in the sub district led by Simanga Shabangu, met to plan, review and put into perspective different interventions to improve the health services delivery in the sub district. The Lekgotla which was held recently sought to highlight Nic Bodenstein Hospital's financial flow for the upcoming year & what should be implemented to allow the hospital's service delivery progress amid challenges faced by sfaff & management

The hospital has been been experiencing a challenge of beds due to shortage with some going for repairs. The hospital also experienced a challenge with staff shortage

The shortage of staff impacted service delivery at the hospital due to budget shortage as numbers of patients continue to rise with some released to the care of their loved ones, making a way for those in critical illnesses & conditions to access beds. The hospital is also short of blankets, allowing staff members to make provisions & request families of those admitted for intensive care to send in warm blankets for their loved ones

The former Health MEC reitarated in an interview with Wolmaransstad Link that, the hospital will be upgraded in terms of a number of beds & new staff members Nic Bodenstein Hospital, not only service Wolmaransstad residents for serious health conditions, it also services Makwassie, Boskuil, Leeudoringstad, Witpoort - nearby farms. Despite budget allocation - The hospital's finances can't cover all costs as there are too many challenges demanding to be fixed

The former Health MEC in the North West, Madoda Sambatha also confirmed to Wolmaransstad Link that they will shift healthcare access for Ottosdal residents to Nic Bodenstein Hospital in Wolmaransstad as their district hospital, said Mbatha, the Nic Bodenstein Hospital still has to be upgraded in terms of the number of beds and staff members to accommodate Ottosdal residents

"We will shift hospital access for Ottosdal residents first, they will access it in Nic Bodenstein as their district hospital, therefore it means Nic Bodenstein Hospital would have to be upgraded in terms of first the number of beds and secondly staff establishments. We have a problem, the community needs us to build afresh Nic Bodenstein" - Sambatha

The old buildings of that hospital will be closed permanently and be relocated to the new identified land. Due to its age, it will be costly to have it under-go maintanance

Sambatha made words that, Nic Bodenstein Hospital will be turned into a district hospital for Maquassi Hills residents including that of Ottosdal Sambatha said, it will strain department of health's budget to maintain & renovate hospital's structure due to its aging such as equipments, beds including bathrooms that are not of good conditions

"Instead of the health community centre because they have one. We are going to upgrade the designs of a community health centre to become a district hospital, build it where the land was identified for the community health centre and later when finished we will close down Nic Bodenstein to relocate it to a new area because it is very expensive to maintain it on the basis of its age" - Sambatha

The Dr Kennth Kaunda District Health panel of officials have concluded the Lekgotla which was held at the Nic Bodenstein Hospital boardroom
