Public Works Minister Macpherson has outlined key reforms and achievements after one year in office
The DA's Dean Macpherson has been busy since he was appointed Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure in the government of national unity a year ago.
It appears that much of his work is taken up, by cleaning up.
The Minister was in the news again on Tuesday, after releasing the findings of a forensic investigation into the irregular awarding of a tender in 2022 for the purchase of oxygen plants at 60 public hospitals - a deal worth R800 million.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) appointed PwC to do the investigation in January this year, after allegations that the tender was awarded to a company that did not meet basic requirements.
The report presented on Tuesday recommends disciplinary action against Independent Development Trust (IDT) CEO Tebobo Malaka and General Manager Molebedi Sisi.
In conversation with Stephen Grootes, Macpherson lauds the Daily Maverick for first raising the claims.
'Without that sort of investigative journalism we might not have ever known', says the Minister.
"I'm glad that we did act at the time because through that we secured and saved those donor funds that came from the global fund that has money from all over the world... to specifically assist healthcare initiatives like we see in South Africa."

"If those funds had gone into those projects, the money would have never seen the light of day and we'd have lost it all. So by that action we took at the time, we secured it to go now into the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) so the projects are still going to continue."

It is critical that South Africa has an IDT that is functional, Macpherson says.
"It's not in anyone's interest to have an entity that's charged with delivering social infrastructure like schools, police stations and hospitals; being in the state that it is. That's why I put so much effort into rebuilding it and getting it back on track so we're able to deliver those projects to communities that need them the most, on time and on budget."
