Wolmaransstad - The North West Department of Health in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District calls on clients to take priority in their health and return to and start HIV treatment
Returning to treatment and adhering to it, has been proven to be the only way to close the 1.1million gap of missing HIV clients in the system
The District launched the Closing the Treatment Gap and Tshela Ka Itekanelo Campaigns in late June 2025, in Tswelelang near Wolmaransstad
The goal is to contribute to the country's efforts to achieve the 95-95-95 targets, ensuring that 95% of people living with HIV are diagnosed, 95% of those diagnosed are on treatment, and 95% of those on treatment achieve viral suppression
“We would like to urge the communities in the district to take this opportunity and be part of the launch, as it contributes to our efforts to build a healthy nation that is aware of its health standing and takes action” - BP Maboe, the Chief Director for the Dr KK District Health Services
Recently, the District Municipality said it has marked a significant step forward in the fight against HIV/AIDS
The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Executive Mayor, Nikiwe Num, alongside the Premier’s Office, and the Provincial AIDS Council, led the Induction of Local AIDS Forum
The initiative, supported by SANAC, aimed to empower forums from Maquassi Hills, JB Marks Local and Matlosana Local Municipalities with the knowledge and tools needed to address HIV/AIDS-related challenges in their communities
In her address, District Municipality Mayor, Nikiwe Num outlined the purpose of the induction and emphasized the joint responsibilities of local and district municipalities in tackling HIV/AIDS
