Ipelegeng elders uplifted in three-day Imologa Projects near Schweizer-Reneke

In the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day, Imologa Community Projects delivered a three-day community initiative focused on honouring and uplifting elderly residents and vulnerable community members of Ipelegeng. The campaign, held from 16 to 18 July 2025, ran under the banner: “Restoring Dignity for Old People and the Vulnerable – Putting a Smile to Our Elders.”

Activities began on Wednesday with youth-focused workshops at Mamusa Library, tackling substance abuse and promoting effective communication between parents and children. The sessions were designed to address issues affecting families and inspire positive change among the younger generation.

“These young people need to feel seen and supported,” said Tebogo Oliphant, CEO of Imologa Community Projects. “Our intention is to guide them away from substance use and remind them that love and support still exist in their community. This was just the beginning, more follow-up sessions are coming.”

On Thursday, the initiative shifted focus to senior citizens. Ten homes were identified for a restoration drive, where volunteers undertook window repairs, house cleaning, and pampering sessions for the elderly, including massages, manicures, pedicures, and hair care. A significant act of goodwill included refencing the Reatlegile Service Centre, where part of the fence had previously been stolen.

“This was about restoring honour and care for our elders,” said Millicent Mabena, Project Manager at Imologa. “They’ve played a vital role in raising generations, and it’s important that we show them love and respect.”

The programme concluded on Friday, Mandela Day, with a gathering at Monjo’s Lounge, where participants from earlier days came together for an information-sharing and cultural session. Elders were treated to classic music, poetry, storytelling, and lessons in local history, adding a nostalgic and educational touch to the event.

In recognition of their contributions, Imologa also awarded certificates of appreciation to all stakeholders and partners who supported the initiative.
