A Community Safety Forum has been launched in Maquassi Hills

Wolmaransstad - A new crime  fighting measure has been  realised with the launch of the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality's Community Safety Forum (CSF) by the Provincial Secretariat Division for Police Services at the Wolmaransstad town hall

Presiding over the day's proceedings, the chief director for Civilian Secretariat for Police Service, Mpho Rantoana, hailed the launch of the forum as another successful milestone as far as fighting crime within the local community is concerned

Criminal acts have been raising hands around Maquassi Hills areas and Wolmaransstad area has been the hardest hit

"However, the CSF does not replace or duplicate any existing structure of form at local level but serves as a coordinating structure for collaboration and integrated planning and implementation at local level. Yes, the CSF concept is closely related to community policing but a clear distinction needs to be drawn as CSF are meant to facilitate the delivery of a multi-sectoral government approach on safety in local communities and is distinguished from the Community Policing Forum through its jurisdiction and tasks" -  Rantoana

The Inter-Governmental Relations (IGR) event unfolded in partnership with other stakeholders in the mould of Office of the Premier, the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality, department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Justice and Constitutional Development, Social Development, Correctional Services, Home Affairs, Public Works and Roads, Agriculture and Rural Development, Maquassi Hills Ministers Unity, NGOs, Education and others

The Maquassi Hills Local Municipality Councillors, Mpho Hlongwane, Robert Moshodi and MMC Tshireletso Malebatsane, graced the event

In his welcoming address, Malebatsane said crime around Maquassi Hills could be easily mistook and said although the rate of unemployment is high, this should not be an excuse to resort to crime

Crime has been continuing unabated in the municipality, sparking concerns on actions to curb the widespread of such activities

During the Community  Imbizo that was held by the provincial police structure last year at the Tswelelang Youth Centre, residents accused local police of working criminals who continue to terrorise them on the streets and their homes

Cases of mugging, house, business robberies, kidnapping, rape and murder have been on "to work on" list of the local police

However residents said, criminals a locked away for their crimes and opened up again into the very same communities

The requested the Wolmaransstad Police Station Commander to leave work immediately, despite the  call, the station commander is still on duty after he was accused in front of the provincial top cops of also friendling with criminals and not resolving cases that have been left unattended for years

Question remains, will the Community Safety Forum make a difference?? We will find out
