Clean-Up Operation has uncovered a widespread non-compliance in Matlosana

The City of Matlosana has conducted a multi-disciplinary Clean-Up Operation in Hartebeesfontein and Tigane as part of its ongoing efforts to enforce municipal by-laws, promote public safety, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

The operation was led by the Safety and Security Department, with support from the Fire and Rescue Services, Local Economic Development, Licensing, Public Safety, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality's Environmental Health Section, the Matlosana Municipality's Electrical and Finance Department, as well as the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Officials conducted inspections at businesses throughout the area to assess compliance with municipal by-laws and other regulatory requirements.

The Finance Department verified municipal accounts, while the Electrical Department inspected electrical installations and meter boxes to identify illegal connections and other electrical safety concerns.

The operation revealed several areas of non-compliance. Many businesses were operating without the required licences, while a number of foreign-owned tuck shops were found repackaging food products without the required labelling, posing potential health risks to consumers.

Environmental Health officials also identified poor hygiene standards, Fire and Rescue Services recorded several fire safety violations. As a result of the inspections, seven fines were issued to businesses that failed to comply with the relevant regulations.

The City of Matlosana says it remains committed to conducting regular compliance operations to safeguard public health, improve business compliance, and create a safe and lawful environment for all residents.
