The Municipal Manager of Madibeng Local Municipality, Quiet Kgatla, was shot multiple times in an apparent assassination attempt on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident reportedly occurred on the R511 near Silkaatsnek, Hartbeespoort, while Kgatla was driving home.
Gunmen allegedly opened fire on his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
According to Roland Craucamp, who was among the first people at the scene, Kgatla managed to exit his vehicle and reach a nearby roadside shop despite his injuries.
He was rushed to a hospital in Brits, while police investigations into the shooting are underway.
