Newborn baby found alive at a dumping site in Wolmaransstad in a plastic bag

The South African Police Service and emergency services responded on Saturday morning (16 August 2026) to a report of a newborn baby found at a dumping site put inside a black plastic bag in Wolmaransstad According to initial reports, a member of the public discovered the baby boy at the site earlier on Saturday. Emergency medical personnel were immediately called to the scene The infant was found to be alive and was stabilized on site before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical checkups and care. Pikitup has blamed depot blockades by protesting casual workers for severe waste collection backlogs, resulting in frustrated Alexandra residents clearing piles of overflowing rubbish themselves.
