• Kidnapping case of a 39-year-old man continues in Wolmaransstad court 



 A kidnapping case involving a 39-year-old man continues in the Wolmaransstad Magistrates Court after was rescued unharmed following a high-level police operation 

The North West Task Team travelled from the North West to Free State in search of the man after investigations led the team to Welkom and Virginia 

According to the reports, his disappearance was reported in earlier in April 2025. He kidnapped in Wolmaransstad 

According to an official police statement, negotiations with the suspects led SAPS teams to Welkom and Virginia, where a coordinated takedown unfolded

Five suspects, aged between 29 and 45, were arrested and  appeared before the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s Court the following week on Monday, 07 April 2025

Suspects face multiple charges, including kidnapping, extortion, aggravated robbery, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH)

• Fighting Unemployment Movement held another meeting in Tswelelang   


 The Fighting Unemployment Movement held another meeting in Tswelelang to engage the community on the unemployment crisis in Maquassi Hills sub-district

The movement has been calling on the North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi and his collective to initiate  job creation within sub-district

The movement said, a huge amount of money is spent in the province every financial year but unemployment crisis of isn't tackled

"With the high level of unemployment in Maquassi Hills Municipality, we call on to Premier and MEC of finance in province to allow the initiative of creating more than 120 + jobs.

• Residents of Tswelelang sent a letter to Deputy Minister regarding water crisis  


 Residents of Tswelelang  have sent an email to the Deputy Minister of Water Sanitation Sello Seitlholo and he has responded

The sending of the letter, came at the back of long weeks with dry taps

According to a report, Maquassi Hills is yet another municipality to owe substantial amounts to Magalies Water

The municipality has been owing the waterboard millions of rands resulting the water utility halting its water services to Maquassi Hills, affecting the residents for weeks if not days

 The Magalies Water Board is predicted to go bankrupt by June next year due to unpaid debt by municipalities

The Director-General for the Department of Water and Sanitation, Sean Phillips said, Magalies Water Board has already reached the point where their expenditure exceeds the available bank balance and will not be able to pay their operating costs and have stopped paying for their raw water

A community activist, Kagiso Sejamoholo, wrote the email on behalf of Tswelelang and Maquassi Hills community said, he's been a encountering community members who are facing water crisis running around seeking water on daily basis 

"Today I encountered people of Extension 10, in Tswelelang location facing water crisis, they said it's been weeks without water. Often I meet residents of Ext 17 and Ext 15 with buckets running around wanting water"

• Moselantja Lucy Kgosi has marked 100 years with family and friends


 Maquassi Hills' Moselantja Lucy Kgosi marked a notable centennial birthday surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones who all gathered to honour a life of resilience and wisdom in Kgakala near Leeudoringstad 

Born on 28 April  1925, Nkoko Kgosi attributes her longevity to a life of simplicity, strong family values, and the intangible principles of divine grace

Her inspiring story is a testament to the power of community, love, and dedication

During this celebration, MEC for Social Development,  Basetsana Sussana Dantjie  urges families to prioritise elderly care while we all support active ageing initiatives, highlighting the importance of intergenerational interface and connections

The Department said, it will  incorporate centenarian birthday celebrations into its #ReThuseReGoThuse flagship programme, an interface intending to include the honour and accommodation of  seniors like Nkoko Kgosi,who continue to inspire and enrich their communities
