•  Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is part of two other municipalities in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District who will manage a sustainable development, Waste-To-Energy Project  

The project focuses on converting waste into renewable energy. A Pledge and Memorandum of Understanding, have been signed marking final preparations for the transformative project

The District Municipality said, this is a monumental step towards a sustainable development for waste management, the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality's Executive Mayor, Nikiwe Num, led a delegation that included investors from Hitachi Zosen INOVA Technologies to make a presentation on how the project will work for municipalities involved

City of Matlosana & JB Marks are two other municipalities in the district that are part of the innovative project. The project will also curb the influx dumping sites in towns & townships

A new waste-to-energy plant will be constructed soon to address waste mismanagement in affected areas


• District Municipality met Wolmaransstad CPF to help with crime prevention tools     

In a significant step towards enhancing community safety, the DR KK District Municipality's Office of the Executive Mayor has donated essential crime prevention and self-defense items to the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Wolmaransstad

This initiative aims to strengthen crime-fighting efforts and equip community members with the necessary resources to protect themselves and their neighborhoods

The donation was met with applause from local residents, who welcomed the municipality’s commitment to tackling crime at the grassroots level

The CPF plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community, and these tools will enable them to respond more effectively to crime-related incidents

During the handover, SAPS representatives emphasized the importance of community involvement in crime prevention



• The Department of Health in North West is conducting, Voluntary Male Circumcision -  VMMC in local facilities

Parents interested in circumcising their children have given medical consent allow the this surgery to go ahead. The health department in Maquassi Hills sub-district is part of the Voluntary Circumcision Campaign for the Autumn  season  

The health department in the sub-district took this medical programme to various areas of Maquassi Hills and spread the information about the importance of circumcising young males starting at the age of 13

The medical programme is taking place at the Bophelong Clinic in Rulaganyang near Witport. This programme takes place in specific times of the year

The North West Health Department has identified the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District for this programme to take  place

According to the provincial health department, the objective is to enhance capacity and ensuring that the majority of clients which are served during the peak of the Autumn, Winter and Summer seasons

The Dr Kenneth Kaunda family physician, Dr Lesley Mahole said, the district has assembled a team of physicians who ensured that the programme run smoothly and no client is left behind due to the increased activity in all sub-districts during these different seasons



• To empower parents who actively contribute to their children’s academic and developmental success came at the right time, a Parental Support Training Programme has been implemented to further accumulate positive results 

 Funded by Bokamoso Solar, in collaboration with local schools in and around the Leeudoringstad area and the READ Educational Trust, these workshops aimed to improve literacy outcomes by providing parents with essential tools to support their children’s academic achievement, address diverse learning needs, and encourage positive behaviour

“Empowering parents is a key component in driving long-term educational success for learners. By providing practical tools that parents can use to reinforce literacy at home, we’re creating a more connected learning journey.

 We have partnered closely with local educators to ensure that the training content is aligned with the academic needs of the learners.
