Four passionate members of the Rustenburg Cycling Club (RCC) saddled up to take on the gruelling yet exhilarating King Price Race to the Sun — a 100-mile (160 km) gravel cycling challenge stretching from the iconic Hartbeespoort Dam all the way to Sun City.
This annual race is no ordinary ride. Known for its fast-paced, flat terrain and a total elevation gain of 1,000 metres, the route is a true test of endurance, determination, and mental grit. Open to cyclists of all levels, the event has become a bucket-list race for gravel enthusiasts across South Africa.
Danie Lombaard, rided on an E-bike, completed the 100-mile distance in an excellent time of 05:33.
Meanwhile, Vaughan Townsend conquered the 50-mile route with an impressive time of 03:58 and Jannie van der Westhuizen took on the full 100-mile course and crossed the finish line in a determined 07:57. Pieter Slabbert also completed the 100-mile ride in a strong time of 06:56.
