26-year-old man arrested for murder of six-year-old girl in NW

A community is in mourning and shock following the brutal rape and murder of six-year-old Bokao Gaseimelwe, whose body was discovered in a pit latrine in Tseoge village, near Morokweng, on Saturday night, 26 July 2025.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West Province confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect on Tuesday, 29 July, in connection with the heinous crime. He appeared in the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 31 July 2025.

According to police, Bokao’s body was found in a state that points to both rape and murder, with investigators describing the incident as a barbaric act of gender-based violence against a minor.

Police have indicated that child neglect is a key factor under investigation. The family revealed that they had stopped at a liquor outlet to buy drinks, and shortly thereafter realised that the child was missing. A frantic search followed, but ended in tragedy when her body was located in a pit toilet.

Provincial police authorities have urged the public to remain calm, refrain from vigilantism, and allow SAPS to conduct a full and proper investigation.

“This case will be thoroughly probed not only as a murder and rape investigation but also in terms of potential child neglect,” said SAPS. “The community is understandably outraged, but we ask that no one takes the law into their own hands.”

The police investigation continues.
