The Fighting Unemployment Movement says crime is increased by unemployment 


 
The Fighting Unemployment Movement has argued in a statement that, high unemployment rate is the cause of increasing criminal activities in Maquassi Hills

The movement is currently advocating for youth of Maquassi Hills to be employed through job creation 

The movement has been holding meetings to engage the community on the unemployment crisis in Maquassi Hills sub-district

The movement has been calling on the North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi and his collective to initiate  job creation within sub-district

The movement said, a huge amount of money is spent in the province every financial year but unemployment crisis of isn't tackled

"With the high level of unemployment in Maquassi Hills Municipality, we call on to Premier and MEC of finance in province to allow the initiative of creating more than 120 + jobs.

The North West Police has flagged Maquassi Hills as a hotspot for continuous criminal activities raging from house robberies to mugging, including murder, assault and kidnapping 

The movement is calling for employment opportunities amongst Maquassi Hills youth as job seeking seems a difficult journey 

Maquassi Hills is part of two municipalities in the Waste-To-Energy project
 

 

 Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is part of two other municipalities in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District who will manage a sustainable development, Waste-To-Energy Project  

The project focuses on converting waste into renewable energy. A Pledge and Memorandum of Understanding, have been signed marking final preparations for the transformative project

The District Municipality said, this is a monumental step towards a sustainable development for waste management, the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality's Executive Mayor, Nikiwe Num, led a delegation that included investors from Hitachi Zosen INOVA Technologies to make a presentation on how the project will work for municipalities involved

City of Matlosana & JB Marks are two other municipalities in the district that are part of the innovative project. The project will also curb the influx dumping sites in towns & townships

A new waste-to-energy plant will be constructed soon to address waste mismanagement in affected areas

Maquassi Hills Municipality was among municipalities in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda that attended a meeting with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment to engage in reinforcing the implementation strategy for the One Million Trees initiative an ambitious National Greening Programme that promotes environmental restoration and food security

The district said, this marked a significant step in the journey towards a greener and healthier environment

In Attendance were key stakeholders that included:

The Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, DEDECT, City of Matlosana, Maquassi Hills and JB Marks Local Municipalities and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment

The Department encouraged all municipalities and community based stakeholders across the DRKKDM to rally behind the initiative and help drive its success

Bidding opened for contractors to repair  Leeudoringstad clinic




 The Department of Health in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District supported by North West Health has opened a bidding for contractors to repair and maintain the Kgakala clinic in Leeudoringstad 

The health department has urged interested bidders to use a link to download pdf documents 

In 2022, the Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development criticised the community healthcare centre that faced numerous challenges that included shortage of staff and medication running out, with some expired

A member of the committee during that time, Gavin Edwards, who led the oversight visit to the clinic said Kgakala Clinic had a shortage of staff and kept running out of medication - with some medication expired

 Edwards revealed that the clinic did not open on weekends and public holidays and also had no generator or a borehole

However, the portfolio committee had expressed its satisfaction after visiting two other clinics - Bophelo Clinic, in Rulaganyang near Leeudoringstad and Segametsi Magaetsho Clinic
