• Maquassi Hills Municipality pleads with residents with municipal debts to pay off





 The Maquassi Hills Local Municipality has announced the implementation of a Debt Settlement Incentive Scheme aimed at assisting consumers to settle their outstanding municipal debts. 

This incentive provides qualifying consumers with write-off benefits on arrear amounts but subject to specific terms and conditions.

The municipality said, Council at its meeting on 6 December 2024, resolved to approve the implementation of this scheme under SLC resolution No: 33/2024/2025

The municipality has urged all consumers with municipal accounts in arrears to approach its Revenue Office to enquire about their eligibility and to make necessary arrangements to benefit from this incentive.

• The Dr KK District aims to use waste to produce energy 





 The  Minister of Electricity,  Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, engaged with Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Leadership on future energy solutions at the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality's Disaster Risk Management Centre Offices

Maquassi Hills is among municipalities in the District  that are part of the Waste-To-Energy project 

During the meeting, the District presented a costed plan on behalf of all Maquassi Hills, Matlosana and JB Marks municipalities, focusing on the upgrading of bulk electricity infrastructure.

• NW Community Safety Dept & stakeholders led GBVF awareness in Maquassi Hills 






 The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management (COSATMA) coordinated key stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), to holistically address the national pandemic of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBV+F)

The event was held at Tswelelang Community Hall in Wolmaransstad in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District. The proceedings started with a briefing at Maquassi-Hills Local Municipality Council Chambers before all stakeholders proceeded to the hall


• Municipality urges residents to apply for indigent subsidy





  The Indigent Registry Section of Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is urging people who are possible beneficiaries to the municipal indigent subsidy's programme to come and apply at its main municipal buildings. 

To qualify for the subsidy, beneficiaries must be pensioners, have a take home of less than R5000.00 a month, have an erf registered under their names and be unemployed. They are required to bring their IDs along.

The purpose of the subsidy is to unburden beneficiaries by providing free water, electricity, help with paupers' burial, refuse removal and other forms of intervention.
Last year, the municipality went on a massive indigent subsidy registration out-reach campaign led by the Office Of The Speaker

 The Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is leading the indigent subsidy programme in various areas of Maquassi Hills 

The municipality seeks to register qualifying residents to benefit from the subsidy programme 

The programme has been been running for few weeks and it has seen more residents applying for it

The municipality said, they are intensifying their campaign to have more beneficiaries registered

• The North West Education celebrated Children's Day in Wolmaransstad 




 The North West Department of Education joins the nation to commemorate Children’s Day at Daeraad Special School in Wolmaransstad

The department has dedicated this annual event to promote the protecting,uplifting and celebrating the rights and welbeing of children

This year’s National Children’s Day commemoration is held under the theme: " Celebrating and Protecting the Rights of Every Child", highlighting the need for stronger community involvement, improved access to services, and continued advocacy for children’s rights as enshrined in the Constitution and the Children’s Act

Speaking at the event Lucy Tong from Learner Social Support Services (LSSS) reaffirmed the province ’s commitment to strengthening child protection systems and investing in children’s development

Equipment handed over to Maquassi Hills women in businesses 





  Promoting sustainable livelihood and empowerment amongst women, the North West Department of Social Development and Small Enterprise and Development Finance Agency, handed much needed equipment to women in Maquassi Hills Local Municipality to boost their small businesses

Operating in various businesses such as bakery, cleaning, sewing, catering and cooking, 9 women received much equipment, to help boost their businesses as part of the department's women development programme. 

Identified through household profiling, the beneficiaries already have sustainable operational businesses.
