The South African Police Service, in partnership with various stakeholders, including the Department of Basic Education, conducted a Substance Abuse Awareness and Intervention Campaign at Hoër Tegniese Skool (HTS).
The campaign forms part of a coordinated multi-sectoral approach aimed at addressing substance abuse, violence, and related social challenges affecting learners and school communities.
Hoër Tegniese Skool has been declared at national level as one of the schools requiring urgent intervention, following a recent spate of violent incidents that have raised serious safety concerns within the school environment.
The intervention focused on awareness, prevention, education, and early support, with engagements involving learners, educators, parents, and community stakeholders.
Key focus areas included the dangers of substance abuse, crime prevention, learner safety, conflict management, and the promotion of positive behavioural change.
This initiative reflects government’s commitment to restoring safety, discipline, and stability in schools, while strengthening collaboration between law enforcement, education authorities, social development services, and community partners.
The South African Police Service, together with its partners, remains committed to sustained and long-term interventions to ensure that learning environments are safe, secure, and conducive to teaching and learning.
