• Maquassi Hills RDP Houses are incomplete due to budget  issues 





The Housing Department in Maquassi Hills Municipality said, incomplete RDP houses in the Ext 17 and 18 in Tswelelang were due to budget shortage which prompted contractors to halt housing constructions, it is not clear how did these shortages come about, however, it has been said, the new budget to resume construction of the incomplete  Ext 17 and 18 RDP houses has been allocated 

• Maquassi Hills Municipality leads indigent subsidy programme in various areas





The Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is leading the indigent subsidy programme in various areas of Maquassi Hills 

The municipality seeks to register qualifying residents to benefit from the subsidy programme 

The programme has been been running for few weeks and it has seen more residents applying for it

• NW AIDS Council leads a 1.1 million Treatment Gap campaign





The Provincial Council on AIDS is hosting various Health Programmes Implementing Partners to report on their progress on implementing the 1.1million Treatment Gap campaign and other health programmes as per their respective indicators

This campaign has headed to Maquassi Hills weeks ago. It has seen a positive  support from local community members in Tswelelang 

• Illegal dumping continues to batter various settlements of Maquassi Hills 




The illegal dumping hotspots are nearby households which may lead to various health complications to communities living closer 

The Maquassi Hills Municipality has initiated a programme to irradiate illegal dumping sites by cleaning and providing with big yellow bins for communities to throw in rubbish, however, uncollected yellow bins prompts the continued illegal dumping when they are filled 

• Equipment handed over to Maquassi Hills women in businesses 





 Promoting sustainable livelihood and empowerment amongst women, the North West Department of Social Development and Small Enterprise and Development Finance Agency, handed much needed equipment to women in Maquassi Hills Local Municipality to boost their small businesses

Operating in various businesses such as bakery, cleaning, sewing, catering and cooking, 9 women received much equipment, to help boost their businesses as part of the department's women development programme

Identified through household profiling, the beneficiaries already have sustainable operational businesses.
