A fire has destroyed another house in Tswelelang on Sunday evening

Tswelelang - A fire has ravaged through a house at Ext 5 in Tswelelang on Sunday night (23 August 2026). Eyewitnesses say, the fire started under a car that was parked nearby the house

Residents says, when the fire started, they suspected that something was wrong. Eyewitnesses also said, they began to see red sparks coming from under the car which bursted into flames

Wolmaransstad Link engaged with other witnesses who alleged that, the male owner of the house was raving his car multiple times and even spinning in inside his yard, after doing so, he parked his car where it normally parks and eventually made aware of the fire sparks coming from underneath his car and he allegedly ignored the warnings

"We warned him that the car was burning, and he decided to ignore our call and went inside his house. When we thought he was coming with something to defuse the fire, he came empty handed and by that time, the flames were getting much stronger to handle. We wanted to go and assist, maybe to pull the car backwards, away from the house but we couldn't manage" - Eyewitness

The flames that were coming from inside the vehicle were already too strong and beginning to burn the electric cable that was above the vehicle before moving into the house, the cable supplied power to the house before it got burned

In a couple of minutes, the house was blazing with flames that became much stronger with explosions coming from the car and the house. The family only managed to take out couches, tv set and important documents

Fire emergency services were called in and immediately responded to distinguish the fire

"The family has lost everything, we tried to assist but the blaze was too strong and we couldn't risk by getting near the house or the car" - Eyewitness

On Monday, 24 August 2026, Community members of the Ext 5 in Tswelelang did a mop up operation after fire destroyed the house and belongings, leaving the affected family with few of their items to walk away with

Some Community members in the area assisted the family in clearing up the burned items. Despite the fire being defused on Sunday, 24 August 2026, most valuable belongings have been damaged by the fire that ravaged through the entire house in a space of couple of minutes

Items that were severely burned include a microwave, fridges, beds, cupboards, wardrobes including a washing machine. The community assisted also in demoliting the entire house which was built with corrugated iron sheets, most of the house items that were severely destroyed were sold off

The house fire that occurred on Sunday sent shockwaves to the family and close relatives including the residents who were at the scene
