In her address, District Municipality Mayor, Nikiwe Num outlined the purpose of the induction and emphasized the joint responsibilities of local and district municipalities in tackling HIV/AIDS
She further raised concerns about municipal leaders who are not actively involved in community-benefiting programs, stressing that such initiatives are included in her office’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure accountability and progress
Following the Mayors’ addresses, insightful presentations provided critical knowledge: Mental Health & HIV – A speaker highlighted the psychological impact of receiving an HIV-positive diagnosis and the importance of mental health support programs for affected individuals
SANAC Presentation – The South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) spoke on the fundamental roles and responsibilities of National, Provincial, and Local AIDS Councils, urging all stakeholders to take ownership and commit to their duties in fighting the epidemic
This induction serves as a call to action for all stakeholders to work collectively in strengthening HIV/AIDS interventions.
