In a move set to strengthen healthcare services in the Bojanala District, North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, officially handed over two critical infrastructure projects to contractors at Job Shimankane Tabane (JST) Hospital.
The projects — focused on water reticulation and the refurbishment of medical gas systems in the neonatal ward — began on 22 April 2025. These developments form part of the MEC’s ongoing “Re Bona ka Matlho” campaign, a provincial oversight initiative aimed at identifying and swiftly addressing challenges within public health facilities.
During his December 2024 oversight visit to JST Hospital, MEC Lehari was made aware of pressing infrastructure issues. Without delay, he instructed the Department of Health’s management to prioritise funding and action plans to resolve them.
“These are not just pipes and valves — we are investing in dignity, safety, and the well-being of our people,” said MEC Lehari. “Today marks the beginning of practical change.”
The water reticulation project will include the installation of a dedicated pipeline to enhance the hospital’s water storage capacity — an essential improvement for operational reliability. Simultaneously, the medical gas project will refurbish supply systems in the neonatal ward, directly impacting the care of Rustenburg’s most vulnerable patients.
