Wolmaransstad identified as crime hotspot, motorists urged to be cautious


Wolmaransstad - A warning has been released to motorists passing through the Wolmaransstad town to be careful 

The warning comes after series of criminal events hailed at motorist and truckers traveling at late-night through the town 

The Wolmaransstad town is now provincial identified as a hotspot for serious crimes ranging from hijacking, murder, kidnapping including robbing 





Various motorists have fallen victims of these crimes and the provincial cops said, Wolmaransstad has now become a dangerous hotspot for motorists travelling especially late-night, even at day-time criminals take advantage of unaware motorists and truck drivers making their way in the town 

Last week, Friday-night, it has been reported that one suspect was shot dead by a truck driver after an attempt to rob victim off his goods, he made the call to shoot the suspect who allegedly died at the scene

In a warning article written by North West Times, motorists are advised to be cautious of increasing criminal activities taking place in Wolmaransstad 

"Please DO NOT STOP in Wolmaransstad if you need to buy something or take a break while on your trip. 
Rather use Bloemhof or Schweizer-Reneke,they are safer options" - North West Times  





The article also warned motorists to use alternative stops for buying food and snacks, something to drink or taking a driving break

Some cases of motorists and  truckers held at gun point have also been reported, the North West Times has also warned motorists and truck drivers to avoid making stops in Wolmaransstad 

"We are warning all drivers, especially truck drivers, to AVOID STOPPING in Wolmaransstad because it is not safe. Criminals are robbing motorists and truckers at gunpoint, especially near filling stations and restaurants" - North West Times 

There has been several incidents where people have been attacked in public, and others just walked by without helping, acting like nothing happened




Reports say that police know about these crimes but are not doing anything to stop them

In earlier April 2025, a 39-year-old man was kidnapped in Wolmaransstad. It was reported that after a high-level police operation 

The North West Task Team travelled from the North West to Free State in search of the man after investigations led the team to Welkom and Virginia 

His disappearance was reporte earlier in April 2025. d 

Five suspects, aged between 29 and 45, were arrested and  appeared before the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s Court the following week on Monday, 07 April 2025. The 39-year-old was rescued by police

Suspects face multiple charges, including kidnapping, extortion, aggravated robbery, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH)





In the Imbizo that was held in March this year at the Tswelelang Youth Centre, community member who attended the meeting with the North West's top cops accused the Wolmaransstad Police of working these criminals and not doing anything to curbing the widening web of criminality in Wolmaransstad and it's township - Tswelelang 

Residents said, criminals do as they please. Criminal activities the police identified included house robberies, mugging, murder, deadly weapon possession in some instances, guns





Community members have since called for the resignation of the Wolmaransstad Police Station Commander 

In this case, crime continues to spiral out of control. Motorists traveling at night are highly urged to be cautious
