Wolmaransstad - The Tshime Chess Institute expects more tournaments in the future after a recently held one that proved that it's stay is more bright to host more of the players in coming times
The institute hosted their second chess tournament titled “TCI Rapid Festival”
The organisation thanked all the chess players who participated and all their sponsors. The tournament consisted of only an open section, and was attended by Dr Kenneth Kaunda chess players, with visitors from Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati
The tournament had a prize fund of R4 000 with medals and a chess registration voucher to the best junior for the 2025 Dr Kenneth Kaunda Chess tournament.
The tournament was won by a local players, Gugu Mtyala, Monyebodi Makakamela in the second place and Chakadidano Nhamo in third place
The organization says, it wants to focus more on developing chess in schools and to increase its prize fund in its next open tournament
Previously, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Chess has held trials after inviting sport players to participate to enter for 1st trial which went underway in Potchefstroom on September 2024
The regional trials aimed at giving chess players an exhilarating sport experience & showcase their skills on board
Some Maquassi Hills chess players entered the 1st trial along with other participants from across Dr Kenneth Kaunda Region
Entries for the 1st chess trial officially closed in September 2024. However, the organiser reserved the right to close entries earlier if a maximum capacity is reached for both of these trials
The Dr Kenneth Kaunda Chess said, players participated in one or both trials. If a player participated in both trials, their average score will be calculated for a team selection
The Dr Kenneth Kaunda Regional Chess tram has been selected based on performance in tournaments & trials that will be held in future
Team selection criteria required a participant to have a 60% weight for tournaments & 40% weight for trials

Second trial took place in Klerksdorp on the mid October 2024. Chess players were requested to utilise this opportunity to showcase their average chess skills on boards
