Leeudoringstad - Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is part of two other municipalities in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District who will manage a sustainable development, Waste-To-Energy Project
The project focuses on converting waste into renewable energy. A Pledge and Memorandum of Understanding, have been signed marking final preparations for the transformative project
The District Municipality said, this is a monumental step towards a sustainable development for waste management, the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality's Executive Mayor, Nikiwe Num, led a delegation that included investors from Hitachi Zosen INOVA Technologies to make a presentation on how the project will work for municipalities involved
City of Matlosana & JB Marks are two other municipalities in the district that are part of the innovative project. The project will also curb the influx dumping sites in towns & townships
A new waste-to-energy plant will be constructed soon to address waste mismanagement in affected areas
"Accompanied by representatives from the Provincial Department and the Executive Mayors from the District's three local municipalities— Maquassi Hills, City of Matlosana, JB Marks & also the neighboring district from the Free State ,the Fezile Dabi District and it's 4 local Municipalities, the group visited the landfill site where a cutting-edge waste-to-energy plant will soon be constructed" - Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality
