Police confirmed death of a man who was set alight in Tswelelang

 

Tswelelang - Police have reported that a man who was doused with petrol and set alight on Thursday has died 

North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh confirmed on Friday morning, 15 August 2025 that the victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Thursday night

A man in his 20s was set alight during violent clashes between two reported criminal groups, taxi, cab drivers and the community in Tswelelang, this turned the previously reported attempted murder case into a second murder investigation



Wolmaransstad Link has learned that the man who was burned was a member of a criminal group in the area

The first murder case reported involved a community member who was seriously assaulted and stabbed on Thursday during tensions 

He died at the Tswelelang Clinic 2 upon arrival. Some Community members along with taxi and cab drivers took to the streets on Thursday morning to fight criminal groups which have been terrorising community members in town and township of Tswelelang

The violence, which broke out on Thursday morning , involved two rival gangs, community members, and local taxi operators. The Wolmaransstad town was barricaded with burning tyres during the tensions

A taxi driver was stabbed and died at the clinic. The burned victim was seen in graphic images and videos lying in the street, moving slightly and showing signs of life before being taken to the hospital, where he later died

Police says investigations into these cases are continuing
