SAMWU members in Maquassi Hills protest over alleged Provident Fund issues



The South African Municipal Workers Union members in Maquassi Hills are allegedly protesting over the Provident Fund matters. It is alleged that these workers have been paying for Provident Fund, however, they do not appear on a databases

These union members blocked the N12 road in Wolmaransstad in order to voice their concerns




IMATU and SAMWU have recently requested a meeting with the Maquassi Hills Municipal Manager Thulisile Mbonani. In the request, the subject that was going to be discussed was, The lapse of third party (pension funds) of all employees

The unions that represents Maquassi Hills municipal employees demanded clarity about their pension funds,  funeral policies and understanding of what is happening with their monthly contributions




Employees have downed tools with some not reporting for work and attending their personal matters meanwhile services to community members slowed down due to the strike

The situation at the Maquassi Hills Municipal offices has since been tense as employees are not reporting for duty. It is not yet clear when will their matter be resolved
