Maquassi Hills Municipality and Magalies Water have identified root cause of recent bulk water supply outages

The Maqussi Hills Municipality and Magalies Water have identified the root cause behind the recent severe bulk water supply outage affecting communities

Telemetry and visual checks confirmed that the Buisfontein Reservoir was at full capacity on Friday, however, a flow was registered in the outlet pipeline. The municipality said this prompted Magalies Water to launch an intensive, multi-day fact-finding investigation to conduct a safe and thorough internal inspection

The municipality reported that the reservoir had to be completely drained via the scour valve over few days of investigation. Upon entering and inspecting the interior of the tank, Magalies engineering teams uncovered the obstruction: an empty chemical bucket lodged directly inside, completely blocking the outlet pipe

After the investigation, a system recovery
refilling commenced with the obstruction successfully removed, Magalies Water officially initiated the refilling process of the Buisfontein Reservoir

System recovery timeline - The municipal network required a standard stabilization and pressure-building window. The municipality requested patience amid system recovery

"We kindly request community patience as full system recovery and reticulation normalization is estimated to take between 18 to 24 hours.
We sincerely regret the immense inconvenience this unprecedented incident has caused residents and local businesses. Our technical teams remain on high alert to monitor network pressures as supply is restored" - Maquassi Hills Municipality
