Maquassi Hills Municipality pleads with residents with municipal debts to pay off

Wolmaransstad - The Maquassi Hills Local Municipality has announced the implementation of a Debt Settlement Incentive Scheme aimed at assisting consumers to settle their outstanding municipal debts.

This incentive provides qualifying consumers with write-off benefits on arrear amounts but subject to specific terms and conditions.

The municipality has urged all consumers with municipal accounts in arrears to approach its Revenue Office to enquire about their eligibility and to make necessary arrangements to benefit from this incentive.

How the debt settlement incentive scheme works:

1.  Household Consumers - 50% write-off on the total arrear amount outstanding for 60 days and older

2. Business Consumers - 30% write-off on the total arrear amount outstanding for 60 days and older

3. Other Consumers - 40% write-off on the total arrear amount outstanding for 60 days and older

The above discounts will be applied to the consumer's account immediately upon settlement

However, should the consumer fail to maintain their account in good standing for a period of six (6) consecutive months, 25% of the previously applied discount will be reversed and recharged to the account due to non-compliance with the agreed terms

This principle and incentive can be applied to all other debtors on the same basis except for government, schools, and other subsidized properties

"Please take note that this incentive is only available for a limited period and consumers are urged to approach the municipality's Revenue Office to verify their eligibility and to enter into necessary arrangements. For more information, please contact the municipality's Revenue Office Credit Control personnel at (018) 596 1067/ (018) 065 0010 Ext 2019,2020, 2021, 2075.
