It is now a year since the South African Human Rights Commission in North West completed an investigation into incomplete Maquassi Hills RDP houses
RDP recipients have been left hanging as their houses are not completed while some have moved into those structures without windows and proper doors to guarantee their safety
Housing projects in the municipality have seen significant delays due to various outlined and concerning matters
The South African Human Rights Commission has finalised their investigative report into incomplete RDP houses in March 31, 2024
Slow workmanship, inferior building materials and unfinished projects were the focus of an inquiry by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) into RDP housing projects in Maquassi Hills & the North West Provice
The SAHRC North West Provincial Manager, Shirley Mlombo said the commission has received a large number of complaints regarding unfinished and inadequate RDP house in Maquassi Hills

The Maquassi Hills Municipality has been facing financial constraints for several years citing mismanagement of funds
Speaking to Wolmaransstad Link previously, Council Speaker Sarah Nkatlo said, they engaged in an intervention to deal with misbehaving officials who used municipal employees rights for their own benefits and failure to pay service providers
However, Nkatlo said, a chunk of money was paid to other service providers for services they rendered to the municipality, harming the municipal account

The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Mayor, Nikiwe Num, alongside the Premier’s Office, and the Provincial AIDS Council, led the Induction of Local AIDS Forums.
The initiave, supported by SANAC, aims to empower forums from Maquassi Hills, JB Marks Local and Matlosana Local Municipalities with the knowledge and tools needed to address HIV/AIDS-related challenges in their communities.
In her address, District Municipality Mayor, Nikiwe Num outlined the purpose of the induction and emphasized the joint responsibilities of local and district municipalities in tackling HIV/AIDS.
Num further raised concerns about municipal leaders who are not actively involved in community-benefiting programs, stressing that such initiatives are included in her office’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure accountability and progress

Out of hundreds of young people in the township, few of them took a decisive decision to join the forces to safe themselves from being against the law, but more importantly to play a pivotal role in creating a safer environment for their families, households and crime free streets in general within the residential community and neighboring farms
By that time, two years back, through the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management's initiative to mobilise stakeholders including community members within the area, the establishment of Community Safety Patrolers, which falls within the Community Safety Forum (CPF), these young people with inclusion of other concerned adults were presented an opportunity to be part of history making community members in the fight against crime within their jurisdiction
