Trio arrested in connection with kidnapping and murder of David Monese

A major breakthrough has been made in the case of David Filmone Monese (59), whose body was found dumped in an open field in Hebron earlier this month. Police have confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects, Petrus Pontsho Mzisa (29) and Kagiso Patricia Molefe (37), on mid-July 2025, in Hammanskraal and Moruleng respectively.

Colonel Adéle Myburgh reported that the suspects, together with Lucas Enock Mkhize (39) who was arrested on 7 July 2025, appeared before the Mogwase Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 July.

The trio is facing multiple charges, including two counts of house robbery, car hijacking, and kidnapping. All three were remanded in custody until their next court appearance scheduled for Thursday, 7 August. The investigation is ongoing.

The arrests follow an intensive 72-hour operation launched after Monese was reported missing at the end of June.

A dedicated team of Crime Intelligence officers, the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Rustenburg’s Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit, and Mogwase Detectives traced Mkhize near Mahikeng, where he was found in possession of items believed to be stolen.

He later led police to the grim discovery of Monese’s body in the Bangladesh section of Hebron.

Acting provincial commissioner, major general Patrick Asaneng, previously condemned the crime in the strongest terms.
