Makwassie – Two men have appeared in the Makwassie Magistrate’s Court after police intercepted a truck allegedly transporting stolen maize meal.
According to the North West SAPS, police received information on Tuesday, 18 August, about a truck allegedly loaded with maize meal suspected to have been stolen in the Free State
The information was operationalised and the truck was later intercepted at Makwassie, where police searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 36 tons of white maize meal
Police said further investigations uncovered discrepancies involving the vehicle registration numbers
The two suspects, 47-year-old Jaime Maxaiele and 38-year-old Moleleki Makutu, were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property
The suspects appeared before the Makwassie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 August. Captain Majang Skalkie said the matter was postponed to for a formal bail application, while both suspects remained in custody
