An intelligence driven operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of suspected stolen copper cable in Leeudoringstad
The operation was conducted following information received by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Crime Intelligence Unit in early August 2026, regarding a vehicle allegedly transporting suspected stolen copper cable from Makwassie towards Kgakala Location in Leeudoringstad
The information was immediately operationalised in collaboration with Leeudoringstad police, Rapid Railway Police Unit (RRPU) and Sinqobile Security

The vehicles were intercepted at the Leeudoringstad four way stop. During the search of the white Mahindra, members recovered four rolls of burned underground signal copper cable, resulting in the arrest of the driver
The operation continued at a residence in Extension 06, Kgakala, Leeudoringstad, where the driver of the Fiat Stilo reportedly resides. A subsequent search of the premises resulted in the recovery of additional suspected stolen signal cable and equipment. A second suspect was consequently arrested
Police seized several rolls of burned underground signal copper cable, one pick, one garden fork, one toolbox, and a welding machine
A white Mahindra SUV was also seized as part of the investigation
The two accused, Christoffer Banda (42) and Ivo Chick Ivo (34), appeared before the Leeudoringstad Magistrates' Court on Friday, 7 August 2026 on charges of possession of suspected stolen copper cable and for contravention of the Immigration Act. They were remanded in custody until their next court appearance
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Arthur Adams, commends the members involved for acting swiftly on intelligence received.
