In a report by the City of Matlosana, the Executive Mayor Fikile Mahlophe has received the Urban Blue International Gas-to Power project on Tuesday, 15 April 2025.
According to that report, the handover was presented by the MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conversation and Tourism, Bitsa Lenkopane at the Matlosana Local Municipality Council Chambers.
However, during the handover, Lenkopane indicated that the investment is estimated at R15 billion for “Phase 1” for the construction of a Gas-to-Power Plant capable of producing 99MW of electricity.
The project is expected to stimulates local economic development, creating jobs and empowering communities.
"It is with great pride that we present this project estimated to bring R15 billion for Phase 1, specifically for the construction of a Gas-to-Power Plant capable of producing 99MW of electricity - a testament to our collective commitment to progress and development through strong partnerships," said Lenkopane.
Lenkopane said the project will offer a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels, contributing to our efforts to combat climate change and build a more sustainable future, essential for businesses to thrive and for our economy to flourish.
Speaking to City Report, Mahlophe indicated that the city has made the project possible by availing 300 hectares of land for energy security and the promotion of vital investment in Matlosana.
