More than 15 chalets at Wawielpark Holiday Resort on the banks of the Vaal River have flooded, causing extensive damage to electrical connections and appliances.

Wawielpark is situated on the banks of the Vaal River, 30km from Klerksdorp and 45km from Potchefstroom.

Shocking footage emerging from sources, show brown muddy waters sweeping through the streets and properties unreachable.

Some cchalets were left without power as services across the resort were affected following excessive amount of rain.

On Wednesday, 23 April 2025, employees were sent home as Vermaasdrift Bridge got flooded again.

On Thursday, 24 April, Wawielpark Holiday Resort management announced that they are affected by the closed bridge.

"It is unfortunate that we have to announce again that the Vermaasdrift Bridge is currently Flooded.  The excessive amount of Rain in the past 48hours has led to flash flooding, dumping huge amounts of water into the Vaal River.

"In Addition Vaaldam has opened more Sluice gates which is adding to the rise of the Vaal River."
