The ANC in North West has conducted a political assessment of the state of governance and functionality of the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality caucus under the direction of the 9th PEC officials and ANC NEC deployees
The meeting was convened to foster unity in the caucus and ensure that there is transparency and accountability in local governmence and responsiveness to the needs of our communities
This is as various parties are preparing for the 2026 local government elections
Parties expected to be part of the upcoming elections include the ANC, EFF, DA and others including independent candidates within the municipality
The ANC's task in Maquassi Hills sub-district is to regain strength and unity which was at some point lost by some comrades who moved to various available parties in the sub-district, however, the party has continued to remain the main leading political party at the driver's seat
The party is currently holding various major seats within the council that includes, Speaker, Major and Municipal Manager's seats as well as other positions
The Maquassi Hills Municipality has been facing financial mismanagement and service delivery troubles. There has been a series of disunity in the council for quite a number of times
The EFF within the sub-district aims to take the top position come the 2026 local government elections. The party, ousted the ANC from its main councillor positions that included the Ward 3 in Tswelelang, which is one of the major wards in the sub-district during the bi-elections in 2024
The DA followed at the Ward 1 by ousting the ANC after winning votes by various votes. The ANC and EFF hoped to take the spot, however, that power returned to the DA. The DA lost the ward to the ANC, in that case, in the 2024 bi-elections for the same ward, it returned to the DA's hands
The ANC North West's assessment continues to foster unity and strength within the party
