With the upcoming budget votes in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature this week, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says it won’t be “stifling” service delivery in the province.
The African National Congress (ANC) currently leads a minority coalition government in the province, meaning it requires votes from other parties to pass the departmental budgets.
In 2024, the MK Party caucus voted in support of all departmental budgets.
The party’s provincial spokesperson, Abel Tau, said they will always act in the interest of Gauteng residents.
“We can assure residents of Gauteng that we want to see services flowing, and if our input and participation in this process would assist and enhance that situation, then by all means, we are definitely going to assist where we can.
“We have always maintained that as a party we are not here to punish our people, but also we want to do everything in our power to dismantle the neo-colonial agenda, especially of the DA [Democratic Alliance] and those who are aligned with them, and that should happen here in Gauteng first.”
