The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Taung Agricultural College has conferred diplomas on 46 graduates, marking a milestone for the only institution in SA offering an NQF Level 06 Diploma in Agriculture (Irrigation).
The Winter Graduation Ceremony was held earlier in June 2026, as the county commemorates Youth Month and the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising under the theme “RESET@50: The Future Calls!”
Addressing the class of 2025, MEC Madoda Sambatha challenged the new professionals to become innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators. He highlighted opportunities in farming, agro-processing and agricultural services.
“We encourage you not to limit yourselves, but to be bold and fearless. Explore opportunities not only within our country but beyond our borders. Exposure to new environments, technologies and markets will enrich your skills and broaden your horizons,” Sambatha said.
Graduates were urged to develop bankable business plans to attract investment, and to use government support programmes aimed at empowering young people in agriculture.
A 22-year-old Aobakwe Molatowagae from Cokonyane village in Taung was named overall achiever. His message to peers:
“Life is going to pull us in opposite directions, but we all share the same vision. We all want to become well-established farmers in the future. Let us continue to thrive and work hard to ensure that the vision we share today becomes a reality.”
Taung Agricultural College reaffirmed its commitment to producing the next generation of agricultural leaders and entrepreneurs, with a focus on sustainable agriculture, food security and economic growth through quality education and training.
