President Cyril Ramaphosa says no one except the police and other law enforcement agencies will be allowed to take action against any undocumented foreign nationals in the country.
He spoke to the media on the sidelines of the June 16 Soweto uprising at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Ramaphosa was reacting to the June 30 deadline set by some civic organisations for all undocumented foreigners to leave the country.
The President warned South Africans not to be misled by people who want to cause instability in the country.
Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has also warned young people not to allow themselves to be used in the protests against undocumented immigrants.
McKenzie says that, although he wants undocumented immigrants to leave the country, he does not support the use of youth in any action against them.
