27-year-old in custody for theft and possession of unlicensed firearm

A 27-year-old man, Tshepo Ndlovu, remained in custody following his arrest for the theft and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He made  his second appearance in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 2 July 2025.

Ndlovu was arrested at around 23:00 on Monday, 23 June 2025, during a multidisciplinary, intelligence-led operation in Nkandla Section, Hartbeespoort Dam. According to police spokesperson brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, officers traced the suspect to his shack, where a search led to the recovery of a stolen rifle.

The firearm was linked to a theft case reported earlier that day at Hartbeespoort Dam. The suspect was promptly arrested and appeared in court for the first time on 25 June.

Acting provincial commissioner major general Patrick Asaneng commended both the police and the community for their swift action. “It is scary to imagine the misery and harm this suspect could have caused with a high-calibre firearm,” he said. “I thank the team and the public for ensuring this weapon was recovered before it could be used with evil intent.”
