Alleged police informer Tumelo Nku said his earlier submission before the Madlanga Commission was made out of fear.
He said after further consultation with a spiritual healer, he decided to submit a supplementary statement as he tries to clear his name in the R300 million cocaine bust in 2021, which he was involved in.
Nku also revealed that he was introduced to an alleged trafficker involved in the drug bust by late African National Congress (ANC) member of Parliament (MP) Kebby Maphatsoe.
He returned to the witness stand on Monday to continue his evidence, which was abandoned on Friday to consider new information.
Evidence leaders had grilled Nku regarding his role in the July 2021 interception of R300 million worth of cocaine in Johannesburg.
He told the commission that his supplementary statement was due to fear.
“There had been reservations in what I’ve inserted in my previous statement, and it was mainly out of fear.”
He also told the commission that he was put in touch with a trafficker by Maphatsoe to coordinate the drug bust.
“Mr Maphatsoe was aware of my skill set and background, particularly my ability to follow, trace and obtain information, as well as the fact that I had an extensive network within Transnet.”
