SASSA urges beneficiaries who haven't switched to black cards to do so

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has urged grant beneficiaries who have not yet switched from the gold card to the Postbank black card to urgently do so.

This follows two extensions of the deadline which will now be on April 30.

So far, 1.3 million of the country’s 2.6 million beneficiaries have successfully made the switch.

SASSA’s Acting CEO Themba Matlou says they are confident that all beneficiaries will transition by the deadline.

Matlou however says the challenge is that many beneficiaries wait until the last minute.

“You know, the challenge we face is that people always rush at the last hour. When you announce the deadline as the 30th of April, people will come on the 29th. But what we have done is put contingency measures in place, splitting our capacity and workforce to ensure that when this kind of pressure comes, we can absorb it. This has proven effective in recent weeks with regards to this transition.”
