• Batho Pele Movement in Kgakala has signed a petition over unhealthy conditions 




The community-based movement in Leeudoringstad, Batho Pele has signed a petition with the Kgakala residents in Leeudoringstad over illegal dumping in the area

The movement said, they are investing in having the dumping site located at the entrance of their township removed. The movement also pointed out that, the illegal dumping is creating unhealthy living conditions for the residents

The movement said, the landfill site is very hazardous to the health of the community members living beside the site 

 "From this week going forward. We are investing our efforts and energy on the removal of the dumping site that is located at the entrance of our location. We've realized that the dumping site is very much hazardous to the health of our people, particularly those living in ext 4,5,6,7,8 and 9" - Batho Pele Movement 

• Tiragalo Sec in Kgakala needs intervention after massive matric results decline





 The ANC Youth League members made a visit to the Kgakala-based secondary school, Tirgalo after recording a 61% of 2025 matric passes

The ANCYL members conducted a Back-to-School oversight due to the decline of matric results 

Various issues were outlined during the oversight which included overcrowding and shortage of classrooms

The ANCYL members saw various issues which challenged the progress of learners during the 2025 academic year 

"We conducted a back to school oversight on the 14th of January 2026 to this particular school,after their massive decline of matric pass rate. Upon our arrival we had to check the state of readiness and the state of infrastructure, concerns  raised were by the deputy principal on her cry for immediate intervention" 

Tiragalo is the only secondary school that serves the community of kgakala, absorbing grade 8s from 3 primary schools. The school is overcrowded and carries about 1005 learners. The school is in short of classrooms and the North West Department of Education has only provided two mobile classes in the past 5 years

• The Kwas London Annual Music Festival held despite 2024 events   




 The Kwas London  Annual Fun Games and Music Festival has successfully been held at the Makwassie stadium on the 26 December 2025 despite occurrences that occurred in December 2024

In late December 2024 and ealier January 2025, police in Makwassie said they had not made any arrests following the torching and damaging of equipment at the Annual Fun Games and Music Festival in Makwassie on December, 27, 2024  

The organisers and Makhadzi’s management team apparently had some unresolved logistical issues


• Sentlhaga Primary learners received uniforms during back-to-school programme 





 
Premier Lazarus Kagiso  Mokgosi visited Sentlhaga Primary School in the Extension 17 in Tswelelang in the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality which largely comprise of learners from distressed families

A litany of intervention measures was planned for through the Department of Social Development in the North West province as well as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA)

The visit formed part of the Back-to-School Campaign by the provincial government. Premier Mokgosi was accompanied by Mayor Mzwandile Feliti and Council Speaker Sarah Nkatlo

Premier of the North West Province, Lazarus Mokgosi in partnership with the local South African Social Security Agency handed over 61 School Uniform hampers to parents of learners of Sentlhaga Primary School of Maquassi Hills Local Municipality as part of the 2026 Back-To-School Campaign in the province

• Eskom in Maquassi Hills it conducting load reduction on areas using much electricity




 

Eskom branch in Maquassi Hills says it is conducting load reduction in areas with most used electricity 

The power utility, Eskom in the Maquassi Hills sub-district has notified residents through SMS notifications that it is implementing a load reduction in various areas that use much electricity during midday time 

Most sections hit by load reduction experience long hours with electricity. These hours various from 4 to more than 16 hours 

To avoid load reduction in your area, unplug or switch off electrical appliances you do not need for extended period of time, appliances such as charges, lights, geyser, kettle and other heavy appliances 

• The Dr KK District held Thuntsha Lerole in Witpoort



 

 The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District  Municipality led the Thuntsa Lerole programme in Rulaganyang near Witpoort in the Maquassi Hills Municipality 

However, residents in the area have mentioned their dissatisfaction over lack services provided to the community members in the area

Rulaganyang is one of the areas in Maquassi Hills Municipality battling with clean water for drinking, cooking, bathing, keeping households and toilets clean, the area is also experiencing service delivery issues such as sewage leaks, illegal dumping and others

The community in the area also battles to receive proper governmental services. To receive these services, they are forced to travel on daily basis to the Wolmaransstad town where these services are available 

The community also travel to the town for essential services such as buying groceries, seeking employment and other essentials. The community is one of those in the municipality that has high level of unemployment amongst it's youth

•  Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation held dialogue in Maquassi Hills 





ACSR in Maquassi Hills service point held a dialogue about "the role of men in society during evolution of cultures and  beliefs" in Tswelelang Community Library at Wolmaranstad earlier today.

The day started with men's walk against Gender based violence and femicide. 

Conversations were aimed at challenging traditional stereotypes, promoting accountability, and encouraging men to embrace vulnerability, empathy, and mutual partnerships
