• Maquassi Hills' Housing Dept said, incomplete RDPs was as a result of budget issues




The Housing Department in Maquassi Hills Municipality said, incomplete RDP houses in the Ext 17 and 18 in Tswelelang were due to budget shortage which prompted contractors to halt housing constructions, it is not clear how did these shortages come about, however, it has been said, the new budget to resume construction of the incomplete  Ext 17 and 18 RDP houses has been allocated 

• Portfolio Committee on CGHSTA has conducted oversight in Maquassi Hills 




 The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs chaired by Kgalalelo Makgokgowa conducted oversight visits in Maquassi Hills Local Municipality to assess the status of the municipal fleet management, landfill site and Kgakala Sewerage Plant. The Committee also conducted an oversight visit at Rulaganyang Ext 2 Housing Project   

Fleet Management
The municipality informed the Committee that in 2016, Kwane Capital was appointed in terms of the Section 32 of the Municipal Supply Chain Management regulations for the procurement of the white and yellow fleet through a transversal tender agreement

The Tsantsabane Local Municipality granted Maquassi Hills Local Municipality consent to utilize existing contract to appoint the service provider for a period of 3 years where R3,7 million was paid to Kwane Capital

•  Safety Forum has been launched in Maquassi Hills 






A new crime  fighting measure has been  realised with the launch of the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality's Community Safety Forum (CSF) by the Provincial Secretariat Division for Police Services at the Wolmaransstad town hall

Presiding over the day's proceedings, the chief director for Civilian Secretariat for Police Service, Mpho Rantoana, hailed the launch of the forum as another successful milestone as far as fighting crime within the local community is concerned

Criminal acts have been raising hands around Maquassi Hills areas and Wolmaransstad area has been the hardest hit

"However, the CSF does not replace or duplicate any existing structure of form at local level but serves as a coordinating structure for collaboration and integrated planning and implementation at local level

•  Municipalities face financial constraints as Equitable Share is still withheld 




 Various municipalities including Maquassi Hills still face financial constraints as the Equitable Share Funding is still withheld by the National Treasury 

To ensure financial accountability, National Treasury withheld the funding of six municipalities in the North West province. The affected municipalities include Maquassi Hills, Tswaing, Kgetleng Rivier, Naledi, Ditsobotla, and Mamusa Local Municipalities

Primary and secondary schools welcome new and returning learners to begin with the 2026 academic 

The Early Childhood Development centres (ECDs) in Maquassi Hills (créches, Grade RRs, Rs, 1 2s) have also welcomed a number of children to start off the academic year

The ECDs have welcomed the new and returning children. Thus far, the 2026 academic year for schools has started off well

Maquassi Hills-based job seekers urged to be careful following an alleged scam on unsuspecting job seekers

 According to Rexo Samuel, there is a person who is promising desperate job seekers in Maquassi Hills an employment at Fedelity Security Services with a fee of R1 000
