Thabang Rampou, a councillor in Rustenburg has expressed deep concerns over the rising cases of learner abductions in and around Boitekong.
Rampou says the safety of learners must now be prioritized by all community stakeholders.
In response, the Office of the Councillor holds a series of community sectional meetings to raise awareness on how learners can protect themselves from these criminal acts.
Stakeholders to be engaged:
1. BAMTA / Taxi Associations- to monitor scholar transport routes
2. Community Policing Forums + Boitekong Police Station - to develop measures to curb abductions
3. North West Department of Education - to provide scholar transport for learners traveling long distances
The councillor’s office will also invite all community stakeholders to submit inputs on how to “put this pandemic to an abrupt stop”.
Rampou paid tribute to learners who have lost their lives, saying: “May the souls of the departed learners Rest In Eternal Peace and their families be comforted during this difficult time.”
He further appealed to faith-based organizations and churches to pray for peace, stability and harmony in the area.
